Rape is the fourth most common crime against women in India. According to the 2018 annual report of the National Crime Records Bureau(NCRB), 33,356 rape cases were reported across the country, or an average of 91 rapes daily.
Hathras gang rape | Victim cremated without consent, says family
The police in Balrampur district have arrested two people for allegedly gang-raping and murdering a 22-year-old woman who was employed at a private firm.
“Some media channels are reporting that her back, hands and legs were broken. This has not been ascertained in the post-mortem,” said Balrampur SP Dev Ranjan Verma. However, a further probe into the matter was on, he added.
The woman’s father and cousin sat on a dharna outside the hospital on Tuesday. They were joined by Bhim Army and Congress workers before the body was taken to Uttar Pradesh

When we reached the village [from Delhi], we found the village was turned into a police fortress. Police personnel stopped family members, including women, to come out of their houses, and manhandled them. All they [the family members] wanted was to wait till 8 a.m.,” he said. He said he did not know what material was used for his daughter’s funeral.
A strong police cordon was laid around the village on Wednesday as well. Media teams were stopped on the National Highway 509 and asked to walk on foot for 2.5 km to reach the village
